Top Commentator is back

Because of what happened to my account last week, I was not able to give out a Top Commentator contest. Now that my account is back and tomorrow is tuesday, I'll be giving 1000L$ lindens to my Top Commentator tomorrow. How's that?

80 comments:

  1. Sounds wonderful, Chino! It is good to see you not letting minor problems slow you down with your aim. :D

  2. I hope I win! *crosses fingers*

  3. Good luck to all competitors ^^
There will be much more competition since the prize doubled this time.

  4. I really want to win! Lindens! Lindens! I need lindens!

    ReplyDelete
  5. *Giggles* Don't we all? I am hoping to win so that I can make a dent in my factional base's tier fee. As I have found in one of the articles about SecondLife, it feels much better to earn money, whether by work or contest, than it is to simply put money in via credit-card. I would agree- it hurts the checking account less!

  9. Lol there is a high chance that only the people with high post counts right now will win.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Well, there is also the issue of weeding through the spam, which Chino does do. And I doubt he would not weed through and delete spam before awarding the prize.

    ReplyDelete
  11. A better way would be simply increase post count only for comments that are longer than a specific length. I see so many "congrats" or "good job" or other stuff like that around.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I wonder if that technology exists right now, or if it is freely available. If anything, it forces Chino to look at the comments and any potential critiques while weeding.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Of course it exists. It's not even that complicated.
A lot of forums use it, especially ones that has prizes for specific post counts.

  14. Lol if only the exchange rate was higher... to think about it, a pair of virtual boots that costs $1 USD in the midst of 16k inventory items isn't exactly cheap.

  15. Well, I have not seen anything like it, neither on such large forums as GAIAOnline.com (though, that was about a year ago) nor on some other BBCode forums. Perhaps I am simply not up to speed.

But again, Chino has 'incentive' to look through things.

  16. Maybe I should try this top commentator thing?!

I think neoseeker, one of the most organized and complex forums I've seen, uses it. However even with the restrictions, it still doesn't prevent some members from reaching over 20k posts lol.

  18. Yikes, $1000 boots? I would definitely rather split that money up between a few things or put it toward a larger goals than one item.

Then again... they may be really nice boots. :P And we see this happen in real life, too, where items have 'designer' names and cost an arm and a leg.

  19. I certainly see at least your avatar about here now and then; I think it is from you connecting to your own blog. It would certainly be nice to see a bit more from your perspective. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. That is the thing- not only will people find ways to abuse, but it a complex system, something you will probably not find easily available on standard systems. I have not browsed all the way through, but if Chino has a system that works for him, I do not see him jumping to change. Particularly if it will cost him and/or confuse (or even irritate) viewers.

  21. Now to think of it, it's really hard to tell if the people here are responding for $L or responding for fun. xD

    ReplyDelete
  22. No I mean 300-400L boots, because that's about $1. Most boots are that price on SL, except for clearance ones or (of course) freebie ones. I'm trying to create my own boots to save that few thousand lindens hehe.

  23. Yeah I guess a bit of spam never hurts a blog lol... it will only increase traffic, which is a good thing.

  49. I would like to put forth a bit of a rant on the subject of camping; not against camping, but on behalf of we honest campers... that is to say real, verified users, that are in world chating, etc., and getting a bad rap from all the #%%$^# so and so #$^#& bot #$%# who-evers!

Okay, that's the first part...but then there are the bot people who are now using really rude poaching scripts that will jump on your spot if you make the mistake of taking a one second break from your camp to cash out.... Nothing worse than a bot, except a really rude scripted bot!!!

Okay, then there are the people that run a camp to create traffic, but then they ban the campers... for... wait for it.... CAMPING!!!!!

Now what is that all about??? Have these people never been to a single marketing course, or even had a single brain cell in their heads??

    Okay, the rant is done.

Nice site Chino. Keep up the good work.

    Rebo out.

I have been told a lot of people logon even at work, just to be idle and earn some back money while they really cannot do anything else, because they are occupied. Some use basic Macro programs to keep themselves alive and logged on.
Otherwise, the concept of camping is so boring, I cannot think of another reason short of being completely new to the game and not knowing that yet.
All I can think of is that the person that bans is just looking to open a chair for someone else, so that a new face can come in. But I cannot imagine much success out of a business if your banning potential customers.

  53. That is what I do too. Better to earn some money while on the background then never. What is even better is that I can use the money I earned immediately, which is unlike the other autosurfing sites when I have to wait to reach a certain amount of payout before I can get the money to spend

But if the owner bans camper at all, I rather they do not have any form of camping in their land. Both have the same effect but banning campers is negative pr, especially even u ban one that is not a bot.

And something the owners themselves use their own bots to create their own traffic, so there is no way for you to camp at all anyway

Recently an owner of a SIM was explaining to me that they run Second Life twice a the same time on the computer so that they can watch 2 areas at the same time. I didn't even realize you could do that till it was mentioned, but I should have. A lot of people have alternate logons for different purposes, but I never really figured anyone would logon at the same time unless they had more than one computer. :)

  55. They are probarly using a virtualization program like vmware, where they can run another os session within the existing session at the same time.

Yeah, virtual pc programs like that are what I assumed, but I didn't ask for more details. Its gotta be a serious killer on the system to multitask SL ;)

It also happens with me, but i'm always trying to avoid it, writing something with sense, not just write to increase posts number.

Now, i just giving you and advice. :)

  73. *crosses fingers too* I hope I win as well but I guess I'll have to try my best ^_^ I've only been playing second life for a few months now so my avatar could use a serious make-over lol. I actually started playing the game because of my real life design teacher who is one of the best photographers in SL! ! >_< She works in the [ida] agency as a photographer and is really amazing. You can check out some of her work on flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8872431@N07
